Unlocking SwiftUI’s Liquid Glass in iOS 26

Last week’s video dove into SwiftUI’s new Liquid Glass effects introduced in iOS 26. From fresh button styles to interactive containers and smooth matched geometry transitions, I showed you how to use these new tools to build beautiful, fluid UIs.

Fresh New SwiftUI Glass Controls in OS 26

Next week’s video dives into more of SwiftUI’s new liquid glass UI designs in OS 26. You’ll discover how toggles, segmented pickers, sliders with tick marks, and menus (including submenus) now feature elegant frosted-glass effects and intuitive interactions. Plus, I build a match‑geometry add‑button for lists that transitions from plus to checkmark

Shaping the Future of This Newsletter

Thanks to everyone who responded to my recent question about whether I should continue publishing this newsletter. The overwhelming majority of feedback was positive, and many of you said you value the content and encouraged me to keep going. A few readers who follow me closely on Mastodon or YouTube said they would not miss it, since much of what I share here is also on social media.

That gave me clarity. Moving forward, I will focus more on topics that do not make it to social media or go deeper than my quick posts elsewhere. The newsletter will not be weekly anymore. Instead, I will send it out two or three times a month when I have something meaningful to share.

I will be away in France from September 16 to October 3, so there will not be any issues during that time. But before I leave, I have a couple of topics for you this week and even a little “gift” lined up for next week.

Books Worth Your Shelf Space

I consume a lot of content, including videos, blogs, and especially books. Over the years, I have collected quite a library of iOS, Swift, and SwiftUI titles. More recently, I have had the privilege of serving as a technical consultant for Packt Publishing, reviewing two standout books:

Mastering Swift 6 (7th Edition)

Mastering Swift 6 (7th Edition) by Jon Hoffman. This book is a no-nonsense deep dive into advanced Swift, including result builders, async and await, generics, memory management, custom operators, and more. Packt link | Also available on Amazon.

SwiftUI Cookbook (3rd Edition)

SwiftUI Cookbook (3rd Edition) by Juan C. Catalan. This nearly 800-page collection of recipes covers SwiftUI 5 and Xcode 15, with topics ranging from animations and charts to Core Data, Firebase, and authentication flows. Packt link | Also available on Amazon.

And here is a fresh release I am especially excited about:

Learn to Code Using Swift

Learn to Code Using Swift by Tibor Bodecs. This is a beginner-friendly guide that builds from the ground up, with clear explanations, modern Swift features, and more than 350 exercises to reinforce learning. Gumroad link.

A Hidden Gem You Might have missed

I walk my dog twice a day, which gives me plenty of podcast time. One of my favourites is Under the Radar with Marco Arment (Overcast) and David Smith (Widgetsmith, Pedometer++). In a recent episode, they discussed a clever technique: adding the ability to broadcast dynamic notifications to app users without shipping a new App Store update.

This can be useful for nudging users to upgrade, alerting them to iOS compatibility issues, or simply sharing timely information in-app. It reminded me of a video and guide I published over a year ago that many of you may have missed.

It is a simple but powerful technique, and I think it deserves another spotlight.
